Elon just did something more powerful than any law.

He made visible, in the open-source code of X’s algorithm, all the censorship that governments now impose on the ranking.

No more discreet filters. No more pressure from the shadows. If a state forces a visibility restriction, it appears in black and white in the public repository. You can read it. You can copy it. You can comment on it.

The first example is already there: the Brazilian filter for the 2026 elections. 665 official candidate accounts excluded from the For You timeline (unless you already follow them). Code, list, legal basis, everything is public.

That’s the real shift.

For years, European leaders thought they were clever. They thought they could regulate, threaten, “protect democracy” by smothering what bothered them, all while keeping up a dignified air. Macron in the lead, with his grand speeches on regulation and his little behind-the-scenes pressures on platforms.

They forgot one simple thing: light is stronger than control.

When you’re forced to code your own censorship for it to be enforced, you’re no longer a protector of democracy. You’re just a bureaucrat afraid of the conversation.

Europe’s budding dictators no longer have the luxury of opacity. Every filter they impose will be a public admission. Every restriction will become evidence.

And while they exhaust themselves trying to manage the flow of ideas like we once managed printing presses, the builders keep going.

Those who build open systems. Those who bet on transparency rather than fear. Those who understand that free speech isn’t a luxury, it’s the operating system of civilization.

We’re witnessing something bigger than a mere technical update.

This is the moment the curtain lifts for good.

Bad ideas no longer have anywhere to hide.

And the people who build, they’ve never had so much space.

Come on.

Translated from French
Often, people look at Elon Musk's project and see either a billionaire's delusion or just an ultra-ambitious company.

That's missing the point.

For years, he's been repeating the same thing: humanity needs a project. A vision big enough to give meaning back to the future. Not a slogan. A horizon.

Understanding the unity of the cosmos, becoming multiplanetary, developing robotics and energy on a scale never seen before... that's not marketing. It's real philanthropy. The only kind that truly matters: the one that expands the possibilities for the entire species.

Tesla isn't first and foremost an electric car company.
SpaceX isn't first and foremost a rocket launcher company.
They are machines for creating technologies that make the future bigger than the present. Technologies that, along the way, radically improve the human condition on Earth.

Meanwhile, part of the West has started to run out of optimism. And when you no longer have a vision, you end up doing just anything. You fight over symbols, you manage scarcity instead of eliminating it, you prefer to denounce rather than build.

Decline isn't a fatality. It's first and foremost a lack of project.

Today, Elon is carrying this project almost single-handedly. And that's precisely why many more people should evangelize it. Not out of fanaticism. Out of clarity.

Because these companies are one of the few living proofs that we can still believe in an extremely positive future. And that we can build it.

The 21st century doesn't need more cynicism.
It needs people who choose to expand the possible.

Since the 1970s, the future has been stolen.

We were supposed to have flying cars.
Abundant energy.
Dizzying leaps in physics, biology, materials.
A civilization that multiplies.

We got something else.
Ministries of scarcity.
Degrowth presented as a virtue.
Mandatory frugality.
Permanent guilt.

I've always felt that something was off.
Because human history has never been one of voluntary scarcity.
It's one of power. Of building. Of multiplication.

What happened is simple.
The communists lost the economic battle.
They won the cultural and institutional one.

They no longer need to seize the factories.
They've seized the permits.
The standards.
The universities.
The minds.

They've turned every engineering problem into a moral drama.
Every ambition into a sin.
Every abundance into a threat.

They're selling you thirst on a planet of oceans.
They're selling you scarcity on a planet of abundance.
The same software everywhere.

Result: the systems are captured.
The State is orchestrated by people structurally incapable of innovating.
Not because they're bad.
Because the software they've been fed for fifty years teaches them to manage scarcity, not to destroy it.

In another context, the same brains could create.
In this one, they block.

Except for one anomaly.

Elon Musk.

He took the crazy bet.
He refused the script.
He built.
In a world that hadn't been captured, we'd have dozens like him.
He held on.
He became the richest man in the world by producing abundance instead of rationing it.

He's a bit like Moses.
He shows the way out of the desert.
The path where we stop governing scarcity and start laying the pipes.
Where power makes everything possible.

This world is coming to an end.
When it falls, the leaps will be absurd.
In physics. In biology. In energy. In materials.
Everything that's been blocked for fifty years will explode.

We don't lack resources.
We lack builders.

Go build.
Follow those who refuse the script.
The future hasn't disappeared.
It was just waiting for us to stop stealing it.

ESA Confirms Ariane 6 Block 3 Upgrades Have Been Shelved

The European Space Agency has confirmed to European Spaceflight that it is no longer considering the Ariane 6 Block 3 evolution, saying there is “no programme need or justification” for the evolution at this time.

Questions regarding the scrapping of the Block 3 upgrades arose earlier this month after SpaceScout reported that an ESA study team had been told Ariane 6 Block 2 would be the rocket’s final major version, forcing it to rework a proposed Enceladus mission, a planned probe to Saturn’s icy moon, that had been based on the more capable Block 3 variant of the four-booster Ariane 64 rocket. A key element of this now-scrapped evolution of Ariane 6 was the ICARUS lightweight upper stage.

In emailed responses to questions from European Spaceflight, an ESA spokesperson said the near-term roadmap for Ariane 6 upgrades includes the already introduced P160C boosters and a lighter Vulcain Aft Bay to “increase launcher performance and competitiveness.” This will be followed by the introduction of the Astris orbital transfer vehicle (OTV) around 2029, which the spokesperson said would “bring significant additional capabilities to the Ariane 6 ecosystem.”

While the presentation slide was unequivocal in stating that Ariane 6 would “not be developed further,” the ESA spokesperson was less definitive about the rocket’s longer-term evolution, which could include upgrades necessary for human spaceflight capability.

“Ariane 6 will continue to evolve whenever new mission requirements justify further developments,” said the spokesperson. “Human spaceflight is also being considered in the context of developing a future European capability to send astronauts to space aboard a European vehicle launched from European territory.”

The spokesperson was, however, more explicit about the near-term fate of the ICARUS lightweight upper stage.

“No evolution of the ULPM [ICARUS] was approved at CM25, as no programme need was identified for such an evolution at this stage. Consequently, no development activities are currently underway.”

ICARUS was a proposed lightweight Ariane 6 upper stage that would have made extensive use of carbon-composite structures developed under ESA’s technology programme. As recently as October 2025, ESA was still describing PHOEBUS carbon-fibre tanks as having a “potential future application on Ariane 6.” A month later, however, member states decided not to approve an evolution of the Ariane 6 upper stage.

During the ESA Ministerial Council meeting in November 2025 (CM25), the agency had proposed a €304.4 million envelope for the Ariane 6 adaptations element. Member states ultimately committed just €145.94 million, leaving €158.46 million uncovered, a 52% shortfall. The agency’s breakdown of the funding received for this element, however, does not specify which Ariane 6 upgrades were included in the unfunded portion of the envelope.

https://europeanspaceflight.com/esa-conf...e-been-shelved/

BREAKING: Germany’s Brandenburg state is in talks with @Tesla about bringing autonomous shuttles to rural communities. 🇩🇪

Transport Minister Robert Crumbach confirmed the discussions, saying autonomous vehicles could be integrated into the state’s existing on-demand bus system to help students, seniors and people who cannot drive, while easing driver shortages.

Brandenburg is looking at Tesla’s FSD (Supervised) shuttle pilot in Germany’s Eifel region, where Model Ys are already transporting students and older residents on rural roads.

Legal approvals are still needed, but Tesla could help reshape public transport across rural Germany.

Race 🕊️@multiplanet1
Two to three times a year Elon Musk deliberately creates a crisis inside his own companies.

He calls them "surges." And the reason he does it explains why SpaceX moves faster than NASA and Tesla moves faster than every automaker on earth.

A surge works like this. Elon picks a target, sometimes urgent, sometimes not, and sets an impossible deadline.

Then he orders all hands on deck around the clock until the deadline is met. Everyone works 16 to 20 hour days. Engineers sleep at the factory. Normal schedules are suspended.

Isaacson witnessed one firsthand. On a Friday night at the SpaceX launch site in Texas, Elon became frustrated by a lack of progress. He ordered an immediate surge of 100 workers to work around the clock. There was no urgent launch date. No imminent deadline. He created the urgency out of nothing because urgency is the state in which his companies produce their best work.

He told Isaacson the surges exist to "extrude shit out of the system." Complacency is the enemy. When things are running smoothly people stop innovating. They maintain instead of improve. The surge forces everyone back into survival mode where only the essential survives and everything unnecessary gets stripped away.

Most CEOs create urgency in response to external threats. Elon creates urgency when there is no threat because he believes the absence of urgency is itself the greatest threat.

The companies that moved humanity to electric cars and reusable rockets did not operate in a state of calm progress. They operated in a state of perpetual manufactured crisis interrupted by brief periods of recovery before the next surge began.

SpaceX to build Starship rocket complex in Louisiana | By Joey Roulette

WASHINGTON, Aug 25 (Reuters) - SpaceX plans to build a Starship launch site in southern Louisiana in a deal announced on ‌Tuesday with the state's governor, aiming to start construction of its fourth spaceport next year, the company said.

The 125,000-acre (50,585-hectare) site, named Starbase, Louisiana, will expand the company's Starship launch operations beyond South Texas, and is designed to support "thousands of Starship flights a year," the company said.

SpaceX announced the plans near the proposed site in Vermilion Parish at an elaborate event featuring Governor Jeff Landry and other senior state officials. The coastal marshland, more than eight times the size of Manhattan, will be a "self-sustaining spaceport" with "propellant production, power ‌generation, deep-water shipping capabilities, vehicle processing facilities, and an airport," SpaceX added. Landry called the deal an "inflection point" for Louisiana. "This project means more than just steel, technology, and capital. It represents jobs for our families. It represents momentum for our communities, and it represents protection for our coast."

Spaceport of the future

Starbase, Louisiana will be built to support thousands of Starship flights a year. This self-sustaining spaceport will have propellant production, power generation, deep-water shipping capabilities, vehicle processing facilities, and an airport.

Construction starts 2027 | First Starship launch 2029

We’re committed to investing at least $100 billion and creating more than 3,000 new jobs at Starbase, Louisana hiring heavily from nearby communities and utilizing Louisiana workers’ extensive experience of building complex infrastructure in their unique environment.

Restoring the shoreline

In Vermilion Parish, the shoreline is eroding between 3.3 and 23 feet per year. We’re partnering with state and federal agencies to expand Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan and Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act projects, including Gulf shoreline protection breakwaters designed to reduce wave energy and slow loss along the Gulf edge.

Rebuilding the marshlands

In Vermilion Parish, the shoreline is eroding between 3.3 and 23 feet per year. We’re working with state and federal agencies, regional organiziations, and the community to expand Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan and Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act projects, including Gulf shoreline protection breakwaters designed to reduce wave energy and slow loss along the Gulf edge.

Preserving coastal wildlife

Pecan Island and nearby wetlands are high-value habitat for migratory waterfowl, shorebirds, wading birds, and other coastal wildlife. SpaceX is not developing the full footprint of the land and will preserve wetlands and wildlife habitat. At existing launch sites, waterfowl and other birds continue to use nearby habitat during operations. Working with wildlife agencies, landowners, and conservation groups, SpaceX will support monitoring and management so this habitat stays productive and hunting, fishing, birding, and other recreational activities that are part of this coast’s culture can continue.

The other parts are: massive amounts of solar cell production, AI chip production, millions of humanoid (general purpose) robots and a mass driver on the Moon.

My guess is that ~1M Optimi plus ~1GW of solar will constitute the first Von Neumann Probe, a system capable of replicating itself entirely from local materials on any sufficiently large planet or moon. This would enable expansion of civilization throughout the galaxy and reaching K3.

SpaceX to build Starship rocket complex in Louisiana

Zitat:Brivael Le Pogam@brivael
I’m going to tell you a personal anecdote.

In 2012, I spent a year in San Francisco, then I returned to France.

At the time, these were still the early days of SpaceX.
The early days of robotics and self-driving cars.

But it was already clear that the future taking shape was going to be absolutely incredible.

When I got back, I tried to share that surge of optimism.
And I got hit with:

“You’re dreaming, Brivael, we’ll be dead before we have self-driving cars”

“You’re dreaming, space is just a toy and we’re going to stay on Earth”

In short. A lot of pessimism.
A pessimism that I found deeply sad.

Since then, I’ve taken stock of that period.
I don’t hold it against anyone.
But against the system that produced that mindset.

And that system is socialism at every level.
In the structures.
In the minds.

France is the land of egalitarianism.
And in egalitarianism, building a Tesla or SpaceX is next to impossible.
You’re swimming against the wind.
Ambition is suspect there. Excellence becomes an offense.

Obviously, I was right about everything.
The pessimists were wrong.
Elon Musk is making that dream come true on a scale that even the most optimistic among us couldn’t have imagined.

Today, SpaceX is officially announcing Starbase Louisiana.
A spaceport worth over $100 billion near Pecan Island.
Construction starting in 2027.
First Starship flights in 2029.
Designed to handle thousands of flights per year.

Self-sufficient: propellant production, energy generation, deep-water port, vehicle processing facilities, and even an airport.
Over 3,000 jobs.
And a partnership to protect the eroding coastline, which loses several meters each year.

The future I sensed in San Francisco in 2012 wasn’t a dream.
It was a glimpse.

If I talk a lot about politics on this account, it’s not out of a taste for controversy.
It’s because I hope, with all my might, that France will bounce back.
That the West will bounce back.
That we’ll experience an absolutely exceptional resurgence of optimism.

An optimism that stops apologizing.
An optimism that builds.
An optimism worthy of the species about to become multiplanetary.

🚨 Starlink receives more than 15,000 calls a day. Every single one is answered by an AI.

And 7 out of 10 are resolved without a human ever joining the call.

The company published it today, with their own numbers.

Grok listens to the problem, diagnoses the antenna, and sends the replacement part all by itself.

More than 3,000 orders completed per week.

And it doesn't just handle support: 1 out of 5 sales calls ends in a purchase.

Elon warned about it more than a year ago, half-laughing:

"AI is infinitely patient. You can yell at it, and it'll keep being really nice."

It sounded like a joke about angry customers.

It was the heads-up that no one's picking up the phone anymore.

On Monday, SpaceX shed some light on its efforts to use Grok AI for Starlink customer support. The chatbot has also been answering calls via the company’s hotline at 1-888-GO-STARLINK (888-467-8275), which SpaceX has advertised on its website and in videos.

The company’s AI business reports that the voice-based version of Grok has not only been handling customer issues but also driving new sales. “At Starlink, we’re using Grok Voice to resolve over 15,000 inbound customer support and sales calls a day,” SpaceXAI tweeted. (The company officially absorbed Elon Musk’s startup xAI in February.)

"Grok diagnoses hardware issues, ships replacements, and fulfills over 3,000 orders a week across voice calls and chat," the company added.

Last year, SpaceX added Grok-powered AI support to the Starlink app before expanding it to Starlink.com. In April, we spotted Starlink’s customer support team using Grok to handle calls on the 888-GO-STARLINK number. The chatbot can also arrange for a human Starlink representative to call you back.

The Grok integration might help Starlink improve its customer support, which has a reputation for being slow or even unresponsive. In the past, some users have reported quick response times and free hardware replacements, while others have complained of waiting days to resolve their issues. Starlink had long pushed users to file customer support tickets online and only began trialing a dedicated customer support hotline in the US and Canada in 2024.

SpaceX to build Starship rocket complex in Louisiana

Zitat
Brivael Le Pogam@brivael
Elon just posted that Starbase Louisiana + Starship 4 will enable more than 2 million tons per year in orbit. More than 30 flights per day. About a dozen launch pads. The largest launch site on the planet. And he adds: “a crucial step toward a Kardashev Type 2 civilization.”

In June, right after the IPO, I wrote that SpaceX was already worth 2,100 billion and could reach 30 to 50 trillion in five years. Many laughed. Elon had RT’d me. Then in July he said SpaceX would be worth more than the rest of Earth if the goals are met. “More than the rest of Earth.” Everyone saw it as provocation. I still see the same theorem in it.

Global wealth (real estate, stocks, factories, gold…) hovers around 500 to 600 trillion. Global GDP around 125 trillion. Comparing a company to that seems absurd… in a closed system. But Earth is just a speck of dust. 0.0003% of the solar system’s mass. A half-billionth of the Sun’s energy. We’re fighting over crumbs at the foot of a buffet no one has opened yet.

For ten thousand years, wealth has followed a single variable: the amount of energy and matter that humans know how to capture and organize. Fire. Agriculture. Coal. Oil. Atom. Silicon. Every civilizational leap is an energy leap. We’re running on 20 terawatts. The Sun radiates twenty thousand billion times more. Kardashev 2 is exactly that: capturing a star’s energy.

SpaceX isn’t just participating in this transition. SpaceX owns the only door to it. Starship divides the cost per kilo in orbit by a hundred. With 2 million tons per year, we’re not just growing the existing market. We’re creating new ones: orbital data centers with continuous solar power, factories in microgravity, asteroid mining (a single M-class body holds more metals than all humanity has extracted since the Neolithic), point-to-point Earth transport, and Mars as the greatest infrastructure project in history.

Every dollar of this new economy will pass through the same tollbooth. It’s AWS, but for civilization. Apple is worth 3,500 billion selling glass rectangles on a single planet. The first monopoly of access to an infinite frontier—it’s just a simple rule of three on the expansion of the addressable market.

And the most important part isn’t even economic. It’s mental. We don’t have children for a world described to us as ending. We have them for a world that’s beginning. Give a civilization a frontier, and mimetic rivalry turns back into emulation, building, transmission.

In June I said: buy optimism, it’s still undervalued. I’m only changing one detail. The size of the underlying asset. It’s the universe.

The builders win. Always.

Scientists turn Starlink into a giant scanner for Earth’s upper atmosphere | A new way to “see” Earth’s elusive upper atmosphere could help make increasingly crowded orbits safer.

Date: August 12, 2026
Source: Kyoto University
Summary: Researchers have found a clever new way to map a part of Earth’s upper atmosphere that is notoriously difficult to observe. Using orbital data from roughly 1,200 Starlink satellites, they reconstructed changes in atmospheric density about 500 kilometers above Earth. The approach could sharpen satellite tracking and help reduce the growing risk of collisions in increasingly crowded orbits.

The region surrounding Earth is getting more crowded as thousands of satellites and pieces of space debris move through low Earth orbit. Farther above, at altitudes of several hundred kilometers, traces of Earth's upper atmosphere can still exert enough drag to slow satellites. Accurately measuring atmospheric density at these heights is therefore important for forecasting satellite motion and reducing the risk of collisions.

More than 99 percent of the upper atmosphere consists of electrically neutral gas known as the thermosphere. The term thermospheric density refers to the density of this neutral atmosphere between about 100 and 1000 kilometers above Earth's surface. By comparison, the ionized gas of the ionosphere accounts for less than 1 percent of the atmosphere. Because ionized gas affects the way radio waves travel, the ionosphere is relatively straightforward to observe. Measuring conditions in the thermosphere is much more difficult.

The researchers used publicly available orbital information from Starlink satellites and applied tomography, a technique commonly associated with medical imaging, to Earth's upper atmosphere. By examining atmospheric drag through the gradual decay of satellite orbits, the team estimated thermospheric density around approximately 1,200 satellites flying at an altitude of 482 kilometers.

Using those measurements, the researchers produced a two-dimensional latitude-longitude snapshot of thermospheric density at an altitude of roughly 500 kilometers. According to the team, this represents the first tomographic analysis of its kind.

The resulting density patterns also showed strong consistency with observations from the European Space Agency's SWARM satellites, which measure changes in atmospheric density along their orbital paths.

The work expands on an earlier study by the same team. In that research, scientists estimated how thermospheric density changed over time and altitude using general orbital information called Two-Line Element, or TLE, data from Starlink satellites. The new analysis adds another dimension by examining how density varies horizontally across latitude and longitude, revealing more of the thermosphere's geographic structure.

We projected the recently released renderings of Starbase, Lousiana, to provide a sense of the sheer scale of the project.
SpaceX's plan depicted consists of ten launch sites, in five pairs. Each pair is about 1.5mi (2.5km) apart.

The production site is over 2km long, and the Starfactory alone has a floor space of over 7.6 million square feet (629,000 sq m). The Gigabay (if, it is still called that!) is over four times the area of the existing Gigabay design.

The whole site measures over 12 miles (20km) in length and takes up an area of roughly 14,000 acres.

Starbase, Lousiana is set to begin construction next year, with the first launch in 2029.

Starbase Louisiana.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said some permits for SpaceX’s spaceport in the State could be issued within 6 months.

FOX 8 asked Gov. Jeff Landry when permits for the project would begin to be issued.

“We have been working with our federal partners; the president issued an executive order several weeks ago streamlining that at the federal level,” said Landry. “We are meeting on a weekly basis; those permits are going to be issued as quickly but as responsibly as possible.”

He anticipates some permits will be issued in less than a year.

“I’m hoping that we can have the major part of the first permits because we’re going to do this in sections within the next six months,” Landry said.
...
When asked whether the launch site will be built to withstand the strong storms that can come ashore in Louisiana, Landry said

“Yeah, look, I had a great opportunity to visit with Elon on a Thursday afternoon in Lafayette for a whole day. We flew over the property, we spoke at length about different things. I asked him specifically about that,” Landry said. “He said, look, you can’t be prepared to go to Mars or to the moon in harsh environments and not be willing to take chances in harsh environments. I mean look at that, LNG facilities are built to withstand those hurricane-force winds. He will be able to build upon some of that engineering.”

People who lead economic development organizations in the New Orleans area do not expect SpaceX’s economic benefits to remain confined to Vermilion Parish.

“No doubt about it. We absolutely expect to see that impact right here locally. We know that there are hundreds of jobs right here in Jefferson Parish that are already taking part in the Meta expansion in northern Louisiana,” said Jerry Bologna, who leads JEDCO. “It’s not just the success of that one area of the state; it trickles down all throughout the state,” he added.

Mein Vorschlag vor ein paar Wochen, als diese Louisiana Purchase ruchbar wurde, war ja, Vermilion Parish in Vermilion Sands umzubenennen.

Brivael Le Pogam@brivael
Elon, the richest man in the world, is a total anomaly.

He’s held onto values from around 1970. Building. The real. Goodness as a fact, not as a pose. He’s scaled them. And he’s moving forward in a world where mental communism has already won.

That’s why DealBook was shocking.

They talk to him about advertisers threatening him with their budgets. He responds: go fuck yourself.

People latched onto the insult. They didn’t hear what he was pointing to.

What matters to me, he says, is the reality of goodness. Not its perception. Everywhere, I see people who care about looking good while doing evil.

That’s the system.

Benevolent in public. Cynical in private. The smile from the podium, the contempt in the next room. Morality as a costume. Dirtiness as professionalism.

Mental communism doesn’t need kolkhozes. It won the day virtue became a communication strategy, and cynicism became proof of intelligence. An abyssal inversion of values.

And that makes me sad. Not because Elon was rude. Because it’s a matter of software.

The majority of people I meet weren’t born for this. They had a good core. Then the system taught them that being clean is being naive. That being dirty is being realistic. That displaying goodness is enough, as long as you handle the rest backstage.

I’ve lost count, in my circle, of the billionaires who do very dirty things and have come to see it as normal. Including in business. Not out of a taste for evil. Out of habituation. The software told them: everyone does it. So it’s no longer dirty. It’s the job.

That’s the cynic’s trap. He allows himself the worst by claiming the worst is universal. He no longer has to judge himself. He’s justified the fall with a theory of human nature.

Elon is the anomaly because he refused that patch. He took software from before the inversion, scaled it to the size of a civilization—cars, rockets, satellites, factories—and the world around him keeps looking at him like an accident. As if building still, without double books, were a form of rudeness.

Collectively, we have to understand that something is wrong.

Not that men are bad. That we’ve installed a system that rewards double books: a public ledger for virtue, a private ledger for actions. And that this double book first corrupts those who adopt it.

Bad ideas kill those who believe in them first. Cynicism too. It hollows people out from the inside. It leaves them rich, clever, perfectly adapted. And empty.

Reconversion is possible. It starts the day you refuse the costume. The day business becomes value creation again, not a license to get dirty. The day you scale the 1970 software, not the 1968 one.

Builders don’t have double accounting. Reality has only one.

Back to work.

Zitat
We sold May 68 as a party.

A beach under the cobblestones. Happy students. A general too old. A youth that just wanted to love and breathe.

It’s a legend. And like all useful legends, it hides the operation.

May 68 wasn’t born of misery. France in 1968 is rich. The Glorious Thirty are running full throttle. You don’t occupy Nanterre because you’re hungry. You occupy it because you can’t stand it anymore that a father, a professor, a rulebook, a girls’ dorm locked up tight, a truth that isn’t up for negotiation still exists.

On January 8, 1968, at Nanterre, Cohn-Bendit interrupts Minister Missoffe: your White Paper on youth doesn’t have a word on sex. On March 22, a hundred fifty students occupy the administrative tower. The detonator is tiny. The software, though, is already there.

The goal wasn’t the Élysée. De Gaulle understood that faster than the commentators. The goal was transmission. Who has the right to tell a child what’s true, what’s beautiful, what’s done and what isn’t. Once you smash that, you don’t even need to take the palace. The palace will follow.

They found the perfect formula: it is forbidden to forbid.

Listen to the verb. Not “forbidden,” the state. Forbid, the action.

The slogan claimed to abolish the norm. It did something else. It changed the holder of the verb. From then on, it’s no longer the father, the school, the Church, the army, the language itself that have the right to forbid. It’s the militant, the department, the newsroom, the narrative commissioner. “It is forbidden to forbid” meant: we alone will forbid.

Politically, they lost. In June 68, the country votes Gaullist in droves. The streets empty out. The factories reopen. The corpse of political communism is already cold, even if the USSR will take another twenty-three years to lie down in its coffin.

Culturally, they won. That’s the whole story.

Short of a coup d’état, a coup de foudre: Vincennes, 1969. An anti-Sorbonne planted in a woods. Foucault runs philosophy there. Deleuze arrives. Lyotard. Rancière. Badiou. They’re no longer looking for what’s true. They’re looking for who dominates, who’s the victim, what narrative to impose. I’ve already told how this factory crossed the Atlantic and gave birth to wokism. May 68 is the factory. French Theory is the exported product.

The newspaper, too. In 1973, Sartre and Serge July found Libération. The declared child of May 68. Four years later, a petition appears in Le Monde and Libération. It demands an end to treating sexual relations between adults and twelve-year-old children as a crime. “If a 13-year-old girl has a right to the pill, what’s it for?”

Among the signatures: Sartre, Beauvoir, Deleuze, Guattari, Barthes, Lyotard, Sollers, Aragon, Lang, Kouchner. And Philippe Gavi, co-founder of the paper. This isn’t a deviation. It’s the directive pushed to its limit. If forbidding is the crime, then forbidding touching a twelve-year-old child becomes the last taboo to blow up. The same software. The same caste. The same pages.

There’s the communism that really survived.

Not the one of the kolkhozes. That one imploded. The wall falls in 89. The USSR dissolves in 91. In 1999, we think it’s over. Fukuyama has already written the obituary. The markets won. History reached its end.

We got the wrong corpse.

Political communism is dead. Moral communism was already in the walls. It had changed hosts. No need to seize the means of production. It was enough to seize the means of meaning: the university, the language, the newsroom, the hiring board, HR, the school. Rudi Dutschke said it as early as 67, on the other side of the Rhine: the long march through the institutions. May 68 was D-Day. The next thirty years were the landing.

In 1999, the virus wasn’t dead. It was incubating. It condemned millions of people who hadn’t asked for anything: honest teachers trained to suspect instead of transmit, young people taught that their civilization is a crime scene, women sold the idea that nature is oppression, the poor explained that merit is violence. Bad ideas kill those who believe in them first. Then they reproduce.

They’re not monsters. They’re people who received software. The same one that, in 68, took an isolated faculty in the middle of a shantytown and made it the model for the Western university.

We need an anti-May 68.

Not revenge. A reversal of the verb. Put forbidding back in its place: forbid lies, forbid destroying what you didn’t build, forbid confusing freedom with the demolition of all norms. And give back to the school, the family, the business, the language, the right to transmit.

Builders have never had the luxury of deconstruction. Reality sanctions them right away.

Sorry. And back to work.

A SpaceX engineer was briefing Elon Musk on a near catastrophe from the latest Starship flight test when he realized Elon was simultaneously playing Diablo IV. The audio was captured and posted online.

The engineer said "I want to be really upfront about scary shit that happened" and explained that the booster was one second away from aborting and crashing into the launch tower. A misconfigured component almost caused the most expensive piece of hardware SpaceX has ever built to destroy itself and the tower in a single moment.

Elon was listening. He was also killing demons on a screen in front of him.

This is the same man who Isaacson described entering "demon mode" during meetings. The same man who reviews engineering documents line by line at 2am. The same man whose attention to detail catches errors on page 34 that senior engineers missed. That man processes life or death flight data about a $3 billion rocket program while simultaneously playing a video game.

He has described gaming as the only activity that fully occupies his mind enough to stop the background anxiety. Reading doesn't do it. Television doesn't do it. Only a game demanding enough to require real time decision making can quiet the part of his brain that is always calculating. The game isn't distraction from the work. It's the only off switch his nervous system responds to.

The richest man alive processes critical flight test data about rockets that carry human beings while playing Diablo IV. Not because he doesn't care. Because his brain requires two simultaneous inputs to function at the level where one input would cause the spare capacity to spiral into anxiety. One screen isn't enough. Two is baseline. The horror isn't the gaming. The horror is what his brain does when the game isn't there.

Elon Musk named his tunnel boring machines after poems.

The first one was called Godot, because everyone was "waiting for Godot" while the Boring Company figured out how to dig tunnels faster. The second was called Line Storm, after a Robert Frost poem. The third was Prufrock, after T.S. Eliot's The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.

The same man who fires engineers mid sentence, who sleeps on factory floors, who texts in single words, and who communicates primarily through memes names his industrial machinery after 20th century poetry.

Nobody talks about this because it doesn't fit the narrative. The narrative says he's a technician. A builder. A cold optimizer who views the world through spreadsheets and production targets. The naming convention says something different. It says the man who builds tunnels under Los Angeles reads enough poetry to have preferences among early modernist works.

Prufrock is a poem about a man paralyzed by indecision. Afraid to act. Afraid to be judged. Measuring out his life with coffee spoons while the world moves past him. Elon named a machine after that poem. The machine's entire purpose is to move forward through solid rock without stopping. The most decisive machine in the company named after the most indecisive character in English literature.

The irony is deliberate. He reads the poetry. He understands the references. He chooses them with the same precision he chooses materials for a heat shield. The machines are industrial. The names are literary. Both exist in the same mind simultaneously. The man who named his son X Æ A 12 names his tunnel boring machines after poems about existential paralysis. The gap between those two naming conventions is the gap between who the public thinks he is and who he actually is when nobody is measuring.

"A Line-storm Song" - Robert Frost (1907)

The line-storm clouds fly tattered and swift,
The road is forlorn all day,
Where a myriad snowy quartz stones lift,
And the hoof-prints vanish away.
The roadside flowers, too wet for the bee,
Expend their bloom in vain.
Come over the hills and far with me,
And be my love in the rain.

The birds have less to say for themselves
In the wood-world’s torn despair
Than now these numberless years the elves,
Although they are no less there:
All song of the woods is crushed like some
Wild, easily shattered rose.
Come, be my love in the wet woods; come,
Where the boughs rain when it blows.

There is the gale to urge behind
And bruit our singing down,
And the shallow waters aflutter with wind
From which to gather your gown.
What matter if we go clear to the west,
And come not through dry-shod?
For wilding brooch shall wet your breast
The rain-fresh goldenrod.

Oh, never this whelming east wind swells
But it seems like the sea’s return
To the ancient lands where it left the shells
Before the age of the fern;
And it seems like the time when after doubt
Our love came back amain.
Oh, come forth into the storm and rout
And be my love in the rain.

Die sturmzerfetzten Wolken fliegen;
die Straße liegt jetzt leer.
Wo Steine schneebedeckt daliegen
bleibt keine Hufspur mehr.
Die Blumen blühen naß und klamm
bienenlos an den Wegen.
Komm mit mir auf den Hügelkamm
und liebe mich im Regen.
