Seit dem ersten Nachweis von Planeten außerhalb des Sonnensystems (1995, 51 Pegasi b), hat man sich daran gewöhnt, daß die keine Namen tragen, sondern nur die Bezeichnung ihrer Sonne plus alphabetische Durchzählung. Nicht zuletzt deshalb, weil mittlerweile der allergrößte Teil von mythologischen Lexemen über das Solsystem verteilt sind. Hat natürlich auch immer auch ein paar Querulanten mißhagt. Etwa solchen, die es gewohnt waren, daß Mr Spock vom Planeten Vulcan stammte, nicht von 40 Eridani A b. Im RL hat sich das Aktenkürzel durchgesetzt.

Ich kenne keinen Planeten "Janssen". Ich kenne auch keinen Stern "Copernicus". ("Wir kennen dieses Aleschia nicht. Wir wischen nischt, wo dieschesch Aleschia ischt!")

Die IAU, die International Astronomical Union Astronomical Union, ist offizell für die Vergabe von Bezeichnungen außerhalb von Sol III zuständig. Und die haben, so scheints tatsächlich, vor einiger Zeit Nägel mit Köpfen gemacht.

The decision was announced November 24 as the United States celebrated Thanksgiving. The IAU gave official designations to 227 stars, making Vega officially Vega, Mizar officially Mizar, Aldebaran officially Aldebaran, and Alpha Centauri its ancient name.

Potentially adding to the confusion, a faint companion to the two stars comprising the now Rigil Kentaurus system, known as Proxima Centauri, has been officially designated by that name. This means the stars are Rigil Kentaurus a and b and Proxima Centauri.

Too many old school astronomers (amateur and institutional) think the change may not be so hard to swallow. Arabic astronomers called the star system Rijl Qanṭūris, which roughly translates to "the foot of the centaur." Rigil Kentaurus would be a rendering of that name. It was eventually given a Bayer designation of α Centauri, and other stars in the Centaurus nebula given other Greek letters. The names have been used interchangeably, with some observers preferring the Arabic transliteration.
