The core stage of the SLS rocket will be filled with 537,000 gallons of supercold liquid hydrogen fuel and 196,000 gallons of liquid oxygen. The rocket's upper stage, the Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage, or ICPS, will be loaded with another 24,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen and oxygen.
The process will take about five-and-a-half hours to complete. While fuel loading is underway, Wiseman and his crewmates will be awakened and given a weather briefing before donning their pressure suits and heading for launch pad 39B to strap in aboard the Orion capsule shortly before 2:30 p.m.
With the countdown in a final 30-minute built-in hold at the T-minus 40-minute mark, Blackwell-Thompson will poll the launch team again before giving permission to resume the countdown.
When the hold ends at 6:14 p.m., the ground launch sequencer computer will take over the countdown, the launch pad's crew access arm will be retracted and auxiliary power units will spin up to provide hydraulic power. The four main engines at the base of the SLS core stage will begin igniting six seconds before liftoff.
After a lightning round of computer checks to verify the engines are running normally, commands will be sent to fire the rocket's two strap-on solid-fuel boosters. As the boosters roar to life, explosive bolts at the base of each booster will shatter, and the SLS rocket will begin climbing away atop 8.8 million pounds of thrust.
At that point, flight controllers at the Johnson Space Center in Houston will take over from the launch team, monitoring ascent telemetry, providing guidance to the astronauts and managing a complex flight plan. NASA's first crewed moonshot in more than half a century will finally be underway.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- The upper stage of NASA's Artemis 2 rocket is now in the fast-fill phase for liquid oxygen after being fully loaded with liquid hydrogen earlier today. The core stage of the Space Launch System is fully fueled and being topped off periodically, which NASA calls replenish mode.
So far, the fueling process appears to have gone extremely smoothly. No glitches or hiccups to report so far, which is a good sign. NASA has been mired with liquid hydrogen leaks in the past, but the last fueling test for Artemis 2 indicated that those issues were fixed.
Launch remains on track for 6:24 p.m. EDT (2224 GMT).
The weather here remains 80% go, and it is a stunning day so far. NASA's weather offer did warn we could see some showers in about 2 hours, but no cause for concern at this time.

The four Artemis 2 astronauts have received their final weather briefing, and everything still looks good: Officials with NASA and the U.S. Space Force say there's an 80% chance that Mother Nature will cooperate for today's planned launch at 6:24 p.m. EDT (2224 GMT).
Artemis 2 team members have also completed the "fast fill" of liquid oxygen in the Space Launch System rocket's upper stage and have moved on to the "topping" process. That's another key milestone that keeps everything on track for an on-time liftoff.

Technicians are performing leak checks on the Artemis 2 astronauts' spacesuits, and making sure that their air and power systems are functioning normally.
"The bright orange spacesuits are designed to protect them on their journey and feature many improvements from head to toe to the suits worn on the space shuttle," NASA officials wrote in an update today (April 1). NASA reengineered many elements to improve safety and range of motion for Artemis astronauts, and instead of the small, medium, and large sizes from the shuttle era, they are custom fit for each crew member."

The mission will test a space radiation shelter to protect astroanuts from solar storms in deep space. Each astronaut has an AVATAR tissue-on-a-chip twin to see how their DNA reacts to deep space travel. They'll also test exercise gear for trips to the moon, not to mention all the imagery and photographs the crew will take of the moon themselves.

There still aren't any problems with Artemis 2's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket or Orion capsule in the leadup to today's planned launch, but something has cropped up: NASA just announced that the Eastern Range, the Atlantic range managed by the U.S. Space Force, is currently working a flight termination system (FTS) issue.
The FTS is a safety system designed to destroy a rocket if it veers off course during launch. All rockets have them. (Orion has its own emergency-escape system, which would jet the capsule and its crew to safety in the case of such an eventuality.) The Eastern Range is apparently investigating an issue that could affect the sending of an FTS signal to the SLS in an emergency scenario and has asked for assistance from the Artemis 2 launch team, according to NASA.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla -- NASA is working a battery temperature issue on the Launch Abort System of the Artemis 2 rocket, with less than 1 hour remaining for today's historic astronaut lanuch to the moon.
NASA commentator Derrol Nail said the issue just popped up as the weather forecast imporived to a promising 90% "go" for launch.
"A temperature for one of the two LAS batteries is out of range. Although it's not a constraint for launch right now, it would be if that temperature is checked inside of 6 minutes," Nail said. "Right now, the team is working some troubleshooting on this issue."
There was a loud groan throughout the NASA Press Site here at the Kennedy Space Center as Nail announced the issue.

Es sieht ganz so aus. Es hat sich da wohl um eine Fehlmeldung des Temperatursensors gehandelt, nicht um eine erhöhte Betriebstemperatur der Batterie selbst. Die beiden Batterien sind ein redundantes System zum Zünden der Rettungsraketen im Fall eines Startabbruchs, die die Kapsel von der Rakete wegtragen, bevor diese gesprengt wird.

Natürlich gibt es tolle deutsche Unternehmen, die der US-Raumfahrt zuliefern. Aber was Doro Bär hier behauptet, ist ungefähr so, als würde der Herrscher des Tschad (wer auch immer das sein mag) sein Land als große Seefahrernation bezeichnen. Bedrückend an solchen Äußerungen ist vor allem das Menschenbild, das damit einhergeht. Nur zur Klarstellung: der einzige rein-deutsche Beitrag bei der Artemis-II-Mission ist ein Kleinsatellit, TACHELES, gefertigt in Berlin, der die Funkbedingungen beim Durchqueren des Van-Allan-Gürtels vermessen soll, um das später für Direktverbindungen zu Rovern auf der Mondoberfläche nutzen zu können. Basis ist ein Bus der Normgröße 12U, d.h. der Satellit hat eine Abmessung von 22 x 22 x 34 Zentimetern. Der Listenpreis beträgt nach Angabe der Fertigungsfa. Endurosat 15.000 €; der Bus hat eine Mass von 2,4 kg; die maximale Nutzlast liegt bei 22 kg.
Nur um das mal in Perspektive zu setzen: bei der Transporter-16-Mission am Dienstag (Falcon 9 von Vandenberg) sind isg. 51 solcher Kleinsatelliten gestartet worden, von folgenden Nationen: USA 15 England 5 Taiwan 5 Frankreich 4 Spanien und Griechenland je 3 Italien und Norwegen je 2 Jeweils 1 (also dem dt. Beitrag zu Artemis II entsprechend): Finnland, Dänemark, Schweden, Rumänien, Türkei, Vereinigte Arabische Emirate, Argentinien, Singapur, Japan, Südkorea und Vietnam.

Nicht gezeigt. Aber eingetippt. Und gleich anschließend wechselt das auf dem Display angezeigte Modul. Er tippt auf den unteren Rand des weiß/gelb mittig auf dem sonst blauen Display dargestellten Raumschiff-Schemas (jedenfalls sieht das für mich so aus), woraufhin am unteren Rand ein braunes Zahlenfeld erscheint und nach Eingabe von "3939" (was mgw. auf die Startrampe 39B Bezug haben könnte) erscheinen links oben 8 Reichen von 4 bzw. 3 Symbolen. Beim Berühren des jetzt am unteren Rand erscheinenden Icons ganz links taucht ein gelbes Rechteck ein, das mir nach einer Füllstand-Anzeige aussieht. Ich vermute mal, daß das den Zweck hat, das Display möglich leer zu halten und nur eine einzige gewählte Funktion/Meldung anzuzeigen, um Verwechslungsmöglichkeiten von vornherein auszuschalten. Der Kommentar erwhänt unmittelbar zuvor das jetzt behobene "Problem" mit dem Temperaturfühler in Rettungssystem.

The second day of the Artemis 2 mission officially began just minutes ago.
Mission controllers at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston beamed up the day's wake-up song, "Green Light" by John Legend featuring André 3000 to end the crew's planned sleep period. The song was accompanied by recorded messages from NASA personnel and centers wishing the crew good luck.
The next several hours will be one of the critical moments of the mission as the crew of four begin preparing for a planed translunar injection burn (TLI) that will put them on the course to fly around the lunar far side and be flung back to Earth by the moon's gravity. If mission teams poll "go," the TLI will take place just after 7:30 p.m. ET (2230 GMT).

Artemis II Flight Day 2: Crew, Houston Poll ‘Go’ for Translunar Injection Burn
NASA’s Artemis II mission management team polled “Go” for the translunar injection burn to send the crew in the Orion spacecraft toward the Moon and send humans around Earth’s closest celestial neighbor for the first time since Apollo 17 in 1972.
The spacecraft will ignite its main engine on the service module for five minutes and 49 seconds beginning at 7:49 p.m. EDT.
Orion’s main engine provides up to 6,000 pounds of thrust, enough to accelerate a car from 0 to 60 mph in about 2.7 seconds.
NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen began their day at 2:35 p.m. with the playing “Green Light,” by John Legend and Andre 3000 by the mission control team and moved into their first full day of activities in space. The crew members are preparing for the burn and will conduct their first exercise sessions on the spacecraft’s flywheel exercise device, a key tool for maintaining fitness during long‑duration missions.

The engine has flown in space 19 times before on three different space shuttles. If you strapped it to a car, it would accelerate you from zero to 60 mph (97 kph) in 2.7 seconds.

Ab 10:40 die Aufnahmen aus der "offizellen Cessna" der NASA bis zum Absprengen der Booster bei 13:28.
